Virginia could become the first southern state to launch a carbon market

This article discusses the changes underway in Virginia, towards joining northeastern states in a carbon market. It would join an emissions-trading program started by northeastern states.

Michael Dowd, director of Virginia’s air and renewable energy division says that if the recommendations are adopted, the program will begin in 2020. Virginia will be the first southern state to trade carbon through the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative – a cooperative market among states in the Northeast.
