US Renewable Energy Generation Now Close to Nuclear

The latest data from Bloomberg’s New Energy Finance (BNEF) shows renewables increased to 18 percent of energy generation in 2017—but natural gas is still king. While U.S. clean energy installations lagged, a record amount of capacity brought online in 2016 drove generation from renewables (including hydropower) in 2017 to its highest level ever, at 18 percent of the overall energy mix.
