Research group calls for public inquiry into fracking practices

The Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives (CCPA) is pushing for a public inquiry into fracking operations in B.C. The call for a formal inquiry comes after a 2013 report emerged showing that the B.C. Oil and Gas Commission estimated there may have been 900 instances of leaks, known as gas migration.

Opinion: Newly disclosed data shows need for inquiry into fracking

This latest revelation of questionable actions by B.C.’s oil-and-gas-industry regulator underscores why numerous groups want the government to launch a public inquiry into all aspects of fracking, including a critical look at the commission’s laissez-faire regulation of the industry.

Kenneth Green: Attack on fracking by BC activists ignores science that practice is safe

A coalition of environmental groups, community groups and First Nations bands are calling for a “full public inquiry” to “investigate the risks and harms associated with fracking.” A resource analyst with the Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives rejects the NDP’s proposed plan to appoint a scientific panel to review hydraulic fracturing, claiming that another scientific review “won’t be enough to fully address the true risks of deploying this brute-force technology throughout northeast B.C. Current realities dictate that we need a wide-ranging public inquiry.”
