A groundbreaking 2016 paper, which conducted a large-scale analysis of shrinking mountain glaciers around the globe.

Viruses In Thawing Permafrost? Uh oh.

This article discusses the issue of viruses and melting permafrost. Specifically, are there bacteria and viruses, preserved for centuries in frozen ground, capable of coming back to life as the Arctic’s permafrost starts to thaw? The idea resurfaced in the summer of 2016, when a large anthrax outbreak struck Siberia. A heat wave thawed the permafrost and a bunch of reindeer carcasses started to warm up; they had dies of anthrax. This is a scary scenario that we can avoid by stopping global warming.
