Republicans lead fight to ban fracking in Florida

Citing unresolved health concerns, Florida lawmakers are weighing the fate of a measure that would ban fracking across the state.

Legislators are pushing the bill to safeguard Florida’s clean water supply, which is the drinking water source for 90 percent of Floridians and a major player in the state’s economy, from agriculture to tourism.

If passed, the bill would effectively ban any type of well stimulation technique statewide.

No fracking on the cards for now

The mere mention of Rhino Oil and Gas, a technology-driven independent oil and gas exploration and development company focused on Africa, who were met with strong opposition from the public during an earlier visit to the town in 2016, may alarm locals, unhappy with the imminent threat of hydraulic fracturing on our very own doorstep. But how imminent is it really?

Delaware Sierra Club joins call for fracking ban in the Delaware River Basin

Delaware environmental groups are joining others in the region in calling for a permanent ban on fracking in the Delaware River Basin.

The First State does not have any accessible shale, which makes fracking unlikely to happen here. But Stephanie Herron, the outreach coordinator for the Delaware Chapter of the Sierra Club, said she is concerned that if officials from the Delaware River Basin Commission lift a seven year ban on drilling in the basin, it could harm the drinking water quality in the First State.
