The Rights of Nature Movement Goes On Trial

According to a Rolling Stone article, a federal judge in western Pennsylvania sanctioned two lawyers from the Community Environmental Legal Defense Fund. That law firm has been helping municipalities fight industrial projects, by looking at the project’s impact on nature. They evaluate whether the projects will harm Nature,┬áincluding the ability of rivers, streams, and aquifers to “exist, flourish, and naturally evolve.”

Those who stand to benefit the most prefer the status quo, the ability to do what they want. Unfortunately we are in a cycle where money usually gets what it wants, regardless of whether the end result harms the people living there. Activists need to use the law to fight against projects that do more harm than good. They obviously do.
