This article discusses How to Teach Your Kids About Climate Change.
Earlier this fall, three devastating hurricanes from the three largest oceans struck. The meteorological anomaly occurred on the heels of the United Nations–commissioned climate report, a grim missive penned by 91 authors from 44 countries that hastens the date of “significant global crisis” to 2040, a mere 22 years away. According to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), the earth’s temperature has already warmed one degree Celsius since preindustrial times. If greenhouse-gas emissions continue unchecked, it will rise by 1.5 degrees Celsius by 2040, increasing the likelihood of fires, coastal flooding, and megastorms, which in turn will threaten “food security, water supply, human security, and economic growth,” the report finds.
