Brooklyn to consider ordinance banning fracking waste

The Brooklyn Conservation Commission wants to make sure the town does not unknowingly become a storage or treatment location for the waste products of fracking.

Conservation Commission Chairman Dianne Wimmer and member Jeannine Noel said the state is developing regulations involving the storage and treatment of waste from hydraulic fracturing, commonly known as fracking. Those regulations could take effect as soon as July 1 or as late as July 1, 2018.
